Shore Excursion Review: Bamboo Beach Club
Updated: Jan 13, 2019
Cruise Line: Princess Port: Falmouth, Jamaica Price: $59.95 USD per person Duration: 5 hours
What to expect: Bamboo Beach Club is in Ocho Rios, so expect at least 90 minutes travel in each direction from Falmouth (with traffic, our return was over 2 hours). Your host for the day will travel on the bus with you in both directions. At the beach, you are seated with the others from your bus so your host can easily serve you. Wooden beach chairs are provided, with shade from trees along the beach (if desired). Only the VIP area (extra charge) has loungers. There are no umbrellas.
The beach is nice and clean, and can you walk for a bit in either direction. There's not a ton of real estate between the seats and the ocean. The day we went, the surf was rough and not many people went into the water. They advised of this on the bus at the start and you could opt to not go. Life guards and a nurse were on site.
The excursion includes free drinks (water, lemonade, draft beer, fruit punch, mojitos) and a meal spread over various small plates (our menu consisted of a skewer with pineapple and sausage, curried vegetables with rice, jerk chicken, plantain and callaloo, and a fried dough with fruit sauce). This is a set menu. There was a bar area where you could pay for other drink options.
There are facilities - bathrooms and an area for showering off the sand. There is music playing all the time from various parts of the beach. Occasionally a small troupe of dancers would come out and perform for a bit. There are a few stalls set up for buying souvenirs. You can also pay for a massage, rent a few items (kayaks, water shoes, snorkeling gear), and have a picture taken ($).
On the return, there is a souvenir/bathroom stop (much closer to Ocho Rios than Falmouth).
